An intimate programme of songs to the lute and theorbo, exploring the transformative power of music. English, Italian and French works by Dowland, Campion, Monteverdi, Lambert and others, ranging from the devotional to the theatrical, and culminating with Purcell’s masterpiece Musick for a while.

Music for Voice and Lute - Soprano Emily Owen and lutenist James Bramley formed the duo Melismata to share their passion for the extraordinary seventeenth-century repertoire for voice and lute. With music ranging from intimate settings of reflective poetry to extravagant fantastical stories and raucous dances, their beautifully crafted performances bring to life the unique works of composers and poets from the Elizabethan and Jacobean eras, through to the Restoration and beyond, as well as music from the rest of Baroque Europe. The pair met during their time as postgraduate students at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London, and perform regularly throughout the UK with Dame Emma Kirkby’s Dowland Works ensemble. The duo has also been selected by Brighton Early Music Festival for BREMF Live! 2019-20. Emily and James are also committed to sharing their music with wider audiences through their work with the charities Live Music Now and Music in Hospitals & Care, which has included a range of participatory performances, workshops and residencies.
